Solutions for Russia’s population decline

With all the talk about the overpopulation in the world and its effects on our environment, you find that the experts in Russia are occupied by its population decline. Russia's population is shrinking. According to M. Rosenberg (2006), in the early 1990’s at the time of the end of the Soviet Union, Russia’s population was 148 million. Today, Russia's population is 143 million. "The Russian Federation today is in the grip of a steadily tightening mesh of serious demographic problems, for which the term ‘crisis’ is no overstatement. This crisis is altering the realm of the possible for the country and its people--continuously, directly, and adversely. Russian social conditions, economic potential, military power, and international influence are today all subject to negative demographic constraints--and these constraints stand only to worsen over the years immediately ahead" (Eberstadt, 2005, para.1). “Russia's population of 143 million people is expected to decrease by 22 percent between now and the year 2050. If this expectation happens, Russia could lose 42 percent of its active working population” (Mcadams, 2006, para. 2). The causes of this decline are the dilapidating health care system, the low birth rate, the high consumption of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes and the high abortion rate. Russia should make solutions in order to end its population decline. The best solutions are that Russia should provide an enduring health care system, decrease the consumption of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, and stop abortion.

First, Russia has a free but a very poor health care system. It should revamp it in order to increase its people’s life expectancy and stop its population from decreasing. According to A. Rodriguez (2008), the big reason for Russia's population decline by 7,000,000 people a year is that its death rate is very high and the average life expectancy for Russian men is 59. In the U.S. it is 75; in Japan it is 79. In the existent health care system there are few professional doctors, rife corruption, and poor equipment. “Medical care in Russia is among the worst in the industrialized world. A 2000 World Health Organization report ranked Russia's health system 130th out of 191 countries, on a par with such nations as Peru and Honduras” (Danilova, 2007, para. 6). Therefore, Russia should spend more money on its health care system. This spending should contain three goals. First, it should make the salaries of the nurses and doctors higher in order to diminish the corruption. It should provide new equipment to its hospitals, and it should train its workers who work in the health care system. If Russia does that, the life expectancy of its people will be higher and its population decrease will stop. According to A. Rodriguez (2008), In Russia there are many 30 to 59-year-old men who die from heart diseases. If Russia provides a better health care system, it can reverse that trend. Russia's health care system needs to be changed as soon as possible.

Second, Russia should decrease the consumption of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. The drug use, alcoholism and cigarettes are leading reasons for the decline in Russia's population (BBC News, 2002). Also, “Rates of alcoholism and drug addiction have increased, especially among young people. Two-thirds of Russian males currently smoke, more than twice the proportion in the USA, and one third of Russian females also smoke. Lung cancer has increased by almost 63% since the mid-1990s” (de Rooy, 2002, para. 4). Therefore, Russia should cope with this problem by doing three things. First, Russia should put high taxes on buying alcohol or cigarettes in order to stop its people from drinking or smoking too much. Second, it should effectively prevent smuggling drugs into its borders. Finally, Russia should use media in order to warn its people of the dangers of drug use, alcoholism and cigarettes. According to A. Smolchenko (2005, para. 7) “there is an urgent need to raise awareness about leading healthier lifestyles to reverse trends”. She also doesn’t believe that the average Russian wants to die. But she believes that Russians don’t know what to do to stay healthy. Russia should stop its people from doing these habits.

Third, Russia should stop allowing abortion. According to M. Rosenberg (2006), during the Soviet time, abortion was very common as a method of birth control. That technique is still common today, which makes the country's mortality rate high. Also, "there are more abortions than births in Russia. The most recent available figures, for 2006, show 1.6 million abortions compared to 1.5 million live births" (Huliq news, 2007, p. 1). In 2003, the BBC reported that Russia had "13 abortions for every 10 live births. Furthermore, a total of 1.582 million abortions accrued in Russia in 2006 (As cited in M. Rosenberg’ article, 2006). If Russia did not allow abortion, it would not lose this number of children that could grow and have children, which could keep Russia's population from decline. Russia should do three things in order to stop abortion. First, it should stop the pharmacies from selling abortion drugs. Second, it should penalize women who use abortion to lose their infants without strong reasons. Finally, it should offer money to the new parents who think about abortion because their financial positions are bad in order to stop them from doing that.

Some people may feel that by promoting immigration and increasing birth rate, Russia can stop its population from decline; however, if Russia does that its population will not stop from decreasing, because the actual problem in Russia is that the death rate is very high. Therefore, there is one solution for Russian population decline, which is decreasing its death rate, because if it decreases its death rate, its population will stop decreasing and its population will go back to increasing. Also, birth rates in many developed countries are declining or stagnant because women in these countries are working outside or getting their education. Therefore, in this time it is hard to persuade women to have more children. Furthermore, the ethnic Russian group will not allow immigration, because they don’t want any group in Russia like the Islamic group to be stronger than them. Because the number of people that die annually in Russia is very high, Russia should decrease it. According to M. Rosenberg (2006), Russia has a very high death rate of 15 deaths per 1000 people per year. This is far higher than the world's average death rate of just under 9. The death rate in the U.S. is 8 per 1000 and in the United Kingdom it's 10 per 1000. Therefore, it should decrease the consumption of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. Also according to M. Rosenberg (2006), because of the high rate of alcoholism women don’t have children. Second, according to R. Kupchinsky (2006), it is clear that making the birth rate higher and increasing immigration is not going to be enough. Huge barriers will remain, including deteriorating health-care system, alcohol dependency and tremendous abortion rate.

In conclusion, Russia should repair its health care system, make alcohol, drug and cigarette consumption lower, and make abortion illegal. Russia is a very rich country. Its land is full of miners, oil and gas. In the current time Russia's economy is growing. Therefore, the Russian government has a lot to do in order to cope with its population declines to cover the gap between its economic growth and its population decline. Also, its huge land needs more people to build it and to get the benefit from it. If Russia gets over this issue, it will be back to its old position in the world with all of the oil and gas wealth that it has. Russians should come together and work hard to overcome this issue. Russian men should stop smoking, drinking and using illicit drugs. Russian women should stop having abortions. Russian doctors and nurses should stop the corruption. Russia's future will be better after it overcomes this issue. Being a developed country with oil wealth would lead Russia to get back on its feet strongly.

Facebook, The Way Of The Future

Hussein Mansho

In the past people used to live in tribes or groups to be connected to each other. Conation is very important in every period of the time. In these days people with all the world's new Technology don’t need to live in Tribe or group anymore, because the technology make the conation easy in any place in the world. Facebook is a new way of conation that the advanced technology provided to us. It is a very popular website, which people from all over the world use in order to connect with each other. Facebook is a very useful website because of three things. First, it is the one of the best ways for Friends' connection. Second, it is a very helpful website for collage’s students. Finally, it is a practical website for business.

Facebook is a very good way for friends' connection. First, by it users can find their old friend whom they lose conation with them. For example, in it a person can find some friends who he or she had studied with them in elementary school, middle school, high school and collage. Second, it is one of the cheapest ways that a person can keep in touch with his or her friends by it even if he or he is far away from them. For example, by it I can contact with my friends and their new friends In Saudi Arabia while I am studying her in America and I pay nothing. Third, by it a person can know about all his Friends activities and participate with them if they are interested in that. Finally, by it a person can know more or new information about his or her friends that could make him or make her understands them better.

Facebook is a beneficial website for students. First, students can know the answer of the hard questions in certain class by a certain group that they make in it. For example, if some students were attending a chemistry class and the teacher of this class gave them 10 questions as homework, a student who didn't know the answer of a question or more could post the question or the questions in Facebook and ask if anyone know how to do it or them and hopefully he would get the answer or answers. Second, students who are about to graduate from high schools can make groups or inter groups in it, in older to collect information about universities from their future class mates. Finally, students who attend classes with a certain professor can exchange their notes by it or by their group in it. For example, by it an absent student could get other students notes and hopefully would understand the lecture that he or she missed.

Facebook is a good website for business. First, because of its huge number of participators companies can advertise their products by it. "Facebook has hit the 175,000,000 active user mark, just 5 weeks after it hit 150 million users in January. At this rate, Facebook has been growing by well over 600,000 users per day over the last several weeks." (Inside Facebook, 2009, P. 1-1). Second, managers and workers in the same company can make close relations by it and know more about each other by it. Every body knows that the good relationship between manger and his workers make workers work more effectively. Third, by it companies can stay in touch with its ex-employees had get benefits from their experiences. Finally, companies can get feed back from its consumers if they build good relationships with them in it.

Facebook is a great website for Friends’ conation, a useful website for students, and a practical website for business. The revolution of connection make the connection between people easer and cheaper. In these days a person can connect and make relationships with people even if he or she hasn’t mated in the regular life. Also, the connections in these days sometime cost no money because of Internet. People should use the new ways of connection wisely and effectively. They should make them an enduring land for the next generations.

My Guide

The person who has the most influence on my life is my father. My Father is a businessman. He has a restaurant chain in Saudi Arabia. He studied only to the fifth grad. He started his business while his brothers and sisters were attainting schools. My grandfather was against his business because he wanted hem to continues his studying in school ,but he refused to do so and continued to do what he likes. He is a good father. He always advises me and my brothers and sisters to continue our studding because the life is harder these days. He is so hard working person that he works 12 hours a day. He always travels in order to look at his business. Some thing in my father that impact me very mush is that he is very tolerant, and all the people who he knows respect him. Also, he is a religious person. He has not missed any pray in his live. He is so helpful that he always help his brothers and sisters i. For him the brotherhood is the most important thing. I want to be like him because I love business and I love to lead. I don't like to be a worker in any company because I love freedom. I love to do what I wont when I wont and I do not like someone telling me what I have to do. When I was 16, I started to work with him in his business. Be working with hem I learned how to deal with the workers in order to gain their respect and their hard working. Also, I learned how to motivate the workers by my relationship with them. He is a successful person. I hop I could succeed like him.

Indirect Saying

In my country we have a lot of sayings that the people use in their live to tell their opinion in something or to give advice in an indirect way. My father always use two of my country old people saying. The first saying is," the door of the cabinetmaker is broken. The people use this saying to advice or aware others who works in certain industry to let them pay attention of their broking stuffs. For example, if the person is a mechanic, and he has a broken car, his friends or family will tell him this saying to aware him because he is a mechanic and he know how to fix cars. Therefore, he is supposed to fix his car as soon as possible. The second saying is, "nothing can scratch your skin like your nail. This saying means that nobody can do the work that you are responsible to do better than you. The people use this saying to advice the person to do his work by himself and don’t rely on other people. Sometime the person who is responsible to do the work tell this saying to others who he or she asked them to do something and they did it in wrong way, Or they didn’t do it completely. In Saudi Arabia hearing indirect saying is bart of our life. my father always use these two saying. there fore when I here anyone say anyone of these saying that remind me in my father.

Alone or Lonely

The life today is very fast and complicated. Therefore, a person sometime needs to be alone to think or relax. I spend most of my time with my friends but sometime I prefer being alone than being with them to think or relax, I love my home because it is the place where I can stay by myself without people that could disturb my relaxing or thinking. I think that it is not strange If a person spends only sometime by himself, but it is strange that if the person spend most of the time by himself, Because being alone most of the time is probably reflects a mental problem that the person may have. People are sometime forced by some situations that make them lonely. Fore example, If you went to new place to study or to work you would find yourself alone because of the differences between you and the people who live in new place that you went to. I used to work in the capital city in Saudi Arabia before I came here. I worked 9 month there. The first four months I felt very lonely because I was thinking about my family and my friend, but after the first four months I was very busy with my new life and my new friends. Before 2 weeks I was with my friends in one friend apartment we had a good time but suddenly I felt that I needed to be home, Therefore. I drove to my apartment. After I arrived I felt so happy that I stay by myself with nobody to annoy me.I cant live lonely but sometime I love to be alone.

Be successful Dreamer

Dreams are the first step to succeed. If we seek about the beginning of any successful person, we find out that he was dreaming about success before succeeding, but dreams are not enough to succeed .you should believe in yourself , and fight to bring your dream from the imaginary to the real life. My dream is to have a restaurant chain in Saudi Arabia. I started to think about that when I was in the high school. I decided to study business to accomplish my dream. While I was studding business in Saudi Arabia, I started the first restaurant with my younger brother. In the beginning we worked by ourselves and some workers. We worked hard until our profit became better. I came to U.S to continue my studding in business and my brother now is managing our business. We will start the next restaurant after a month. When I finish my master dgree I well go back to Saudi Arabia to teach business and continue my dreams in having a big restaurant chain. Dreams are your way to succeed, so don’t keep them only in the imaginary.

I tried online dating sites, chatting rooms, and meeting new girls but I failed. Therefore, I decided to continue my life without love. After I made this decision, my love came back to me. Now we make all the decisions together. And we are on our way to secsess. I hope to finish my studding quickly and go back home to get married with her. I think love happen only one time in the life. Mansho's Last Vacation

In my last vacation CESl gave me only five days for rest. In the beginning I thought that the five days were not enough to rest and enjoy, but after I went through this short time vacation I have had a good time. In the first day of my vacation after I finished the TOFAL test I went to my friend Apartment, which I haven’t been in for two months. We drank and spoke about our doing when I used to be his next-door neighbor. He reminded me the first four months, That I have lived in Carbondale, How my language was very poor, and how it has been improved ;Therefore, it was a good day after a long test. The next two days in my vacation were good, too. I cooked, rememorize some wards, listened to some music of my best singer's New CD, and spoke with my family members. Next, in the fourth day in my vacation I invited all my American friends who asked me to cook for them to eat Arabic food. We ate, drank, and spoke. Finally, the last day in my vacation I went to Illinois driver license office, took the test, got my driver license and drove the first time in Carbondale safely without being concerned by the police to not pull me over. It was a short vacation, but I enjoyed it.

Lucid dreaming

According to Pamela Hartmann (n.d.) in her article, "Lucid dreaming", lucid dreaming means consciously aware while a person is dreaming. At that time, they can participate in the events and emotions of the dream by character experiencing , observing and watching, directing and creating. Patricia Garfield, who wrote "Creative Dreaming", said that a lucid dreamer would have unbelievable freedom through the lucid dream. Also Stephen LaBerge, at the Standford University Sleep Lab, has developed a method called the MILD technique. MILD technique is waking up from a dream, imaging yourself, seeing yourself, and telling yourself. He claims that by using the MILD technique, he was able to have lucid dream on any night he wished. The way to gain access to your dream is to place a notebook or diary on your nightstand or under your pillow. Secondly, don't open your eyes immediately when you wake up. Third, lie and try to recall any imagery. Next, think about its ABCD order, ABCD means that D is any specific image, C is the event or activity that preceded it, B is what preceded that, and A is what preceded that. Lastly, describe the dream. Pamela Hartmann says that as we begin to experience this, our dream journal will achieve a special place in our life.

Making Dreams Work For Us

In the article "Dreams: making them work for us," the author states how to make dreams work for dreamers. First, Joseph dreams bad dream for a long time. He was exhausted in the morning by this dream. Second, Milton Kramer considers that people should pay attention to their dreams and try to change the bad dreams. Third, changing our dream requires recalling the dream by using several steps. Next, Dr. Rosalind Cartwright has created another approach that can help people to change their dreams. Finally, Joseph could change his bad dream by using dream therapy.

what is a dream

In the article "What is a Dream?" the author mentions what the people think about dreams in the past, and the scientists' attempts to interpret what the dreams are. First, our ancestors didn’t pay attention to what the dreams were, but they thought that they were important to the individual's feeling and bodily contentment. Not only that, but they thought that god had sent to them message by dreams. Second, in the twentieth century was the beginning of dream studies that made people believes that the dreams illustrated something in their personality. Third, Freud was the first person studied dreams by his wish-fulfillment theory and his book The Interpretation of Dreams. He assumed that the person expressed his wishes and frights in dreams because they were improper in actual life. Third, in balance theory" To Become Popular" by Carl Jung's. Jung viewed that the person contacted with his wishes by dreams. Next, William Domhoff assumed that there were relationships between the dreams and the person's age, sex, society, waking activities, and believes, compared the dreams between the adults with the children and the women with the men, and noted the similarity and the difference between people from 11 cultures. Finally, the author mentions that it is very hard to know the meaning of dreams and the agreement between who study.

The Differences between Saudi Society and American Society

There are many differences between the societies all over the world. These differences are consequence of religions, old customs, the value of freedom and development in the societies. Therefore, people's behavior in certain societies is different than other people's behavior in other societies. Saudi people's methods are bonded by Islamic religion instructions and very old customs. Therefore, Saudi people's methods are different than American people methods, which depend completely on development and freedom. These differences contain three results. Saudi society is more collectivist than the American society, Saudi society has higher power distance than American society and the Saudi society has stronger uncertainty avoidance than American society.

Collectivism in Saudi society is more important than it is in the American society. First, Saudi people prefer group activities; they prefer doing work in the companies with a group to doing it alone. In contrast, American people prefer doing their activities alone. For example, they prefer financing a business instead of getting other people to invest in it. Second, Saudi people think of themselves as "members of a group" so that all people in Saudi Arabia work together to make things happen for each other; they wouldn’t be jealous if another person were more successful than them; they help each other even if they are in competition. This is something that you rarely observe in American society. Finally, Saudi people base decisions on the needs of the group. They never have made decisions based on the benefits of only few in the group, but American people base decisions individually. American people are more individual than Saudi people.

The lack of the development which Saudi Arabia has, and the consideration to keep the old customs has made Saudi society have higher power distance than American society. First, in the Saudi house the man has the first and the final words. The woman cannot make any decision without the approval from the man, and the man always makes the important decisions without sharing them with the women. On the other hand, the man and the woman share with each other to make the important decisions in the American house. Second, at work, Saudi people expect the boss to make all the decisions, and all they do is the achieving. In contrast, at work in American companies there is not as much difference between people of high and low status. The boss listens to people at all levels in the company too. Finally, in the Saudi society the relationship between the old generation and the new generation is strong, so if you were 40 years old and your father asked you to do something you would do it, even if it were without benefit. On the other hand, the relationship between the old generation and the new generation is weak; therefore, the people in the new generation make their decision without taking advice from the old generation. American society eliminates the buffer of the hierarchy, but Saudi society still has it.

Saudi society is close minded; therefore, their uncertainty avoidance is stronger than American society which is open minded. First, Saudi people try to avoid the unknown. For example, the employees in the company are always against any change in the company procedures which they work in, while American company employees are more open to changes. Second, Saudi people are more emotional than American people. For example, the emotions are the most important things at work in Saudi society, so Saudi people never work devotedly without having good relations exist between them and the mangers in their work. However, in American society the most important thing at work is the work itself. They never let the relationship between them and their mangers affect strongly on their work. Finally, Saudi people tend to like having many rules. For example, at work if there were not many rules, they would not achieve, come to work on time and leave on time, so the employer could put a lot of rules to actualizing his work. In the other hand, American employees prefer less rules and more freedom in their work to achieve efficiently. American people have weaker uncertainty avoidance than Saudi people do.

Collectivism, power distance and uncertainty avoidance are higher in Saudi society than they are in American society. That exhibits the disadvantages which Saudi organizations should start to get rid of, and exhibits the advantages which Saudi organizations should keep and develop. With The development of the global economy and the advances in the technology Saudi Arabia cannot afford to resist change and America must come together and work as one. If there were more collaboration and understanding between the societies of the world, and there were even plans for countries throughout the world to share their experiences, the people would be much happier.

Bargain before buying

In my country people always negotiate. Houses, cars, and lands are the first things we negotiate for. Food and clothes are the second thing we negotiate for. In my country I used to bargain to buy some land for may father, and buy some used cars for my family's restaurant chain. Not only that, but when I was working in my family's restaurant chain, I have faced many customers bargaining with me. Therefore, I am good in bargaining because of my special strategies. Frst, do not show your craving or desiring of the products. second, before deciding to buy any products go around and observe the costs of the similar products. third, decide how much you want to pay. Next, offer a price which is as much below what you have decided to pay, as the seller's price is above it. Finally, go back and forth with the sellers until they accept your price. you should bargain in my country to have a good price.

some time business is a gamble

People always try to start in business to increase their incomes; some of them take loans to start, and others spend all the money which they have saved through of their live. Therefore, they should choose good cities to start a strong business in. Carbondale is one of the cities which some people have started a small business in. They may forget that starting business in Carbondale contains three dangers. The number of Carbondale people is not comforting; the geographic location of Carbondale is not strategic, and the competition with the big store in Carbondale would be difficult.

The people who live in Carbondale are about 40,000, and this number of people is not encouraging at all. First of all, this number of people in Carbondale makes the people close to each other. Therefore, if you make mistake with one customer, a lot of people in Carbondale would likely know about it; therefore, this would negatively affect you in your trade by losing more than one customer. Second, 20,000 of Carbondale people are students, and the students never have much money to buy from the stores. Finally, the people who are not students in Carbondale have simple jobs, so they have small mount incomes which they use some of them for the important products. The number of people in Carbondale is not enough to start your business in it.

Carbondale, which is located in southern Illinois, has a bad geographic location to start a new business in. First, it is not a tourist city, so your dependence would be on local people. Therefore, you could lose the opportunity of tourist customers. Second, the weather in Carbondale is bad for business. The winter in Carbondale is seven months, so the sky is still snowing for five months, which could have negative effects on your trade. Not only that, but in the summer, which is three months in Carbondale, all the students could leave because of the high temperature, so almost half of your customers would have left during these three summer months. Finally, Carbondale is next to big cities like Chicago, St.Louis and Memphis. Therefore, your potential customers would prefer traveling to them one or two times a year to buy long term products for the year instead of buying from your store. Carbondale's geographic location makes it bad for starting a business in it.

Starting business in Carbondale requires strong competition. First, big stores like Wal-Mart and Kroger will be your competitors. The big stores like them have more ability in the product discounts than small stores, by using their big warehouses to store plenty of products after buying them with cheaper prices because of the big amount. Second, Carbondale is very small so the good business would be noticed; therefore, you would have many potential competitors with a small number of people. Finally, people always trust big stores more than small stores. They sometimes prefer buying products, which the small stores have, from big stores at same price than buying them from small stores next to them because they think they are cheaper. The competition in Carbondale would put you in a critical position.

Business in Carbondale is not a good idea, because of the number of the people, the geographic location and the strong competition. If you want to take a gamble do it. Some people in the world love the adventures, but they try to study them well before will have started, so if they are would be unsuccessful they, avoid them. And business in Carbondale is an unsuccessful adventure; so think about your luck.
